Question
Hello Doctor,

Within last 2 months I had been to massage parlor a couple of times and had hand job twice (without protection) and a blow job with protection. I am not sure whether the person who gave me this was HIV infected or not. Chances are that may be they were!

But now since over 2 weeks or so I have a lot of throat itching and irritation which doesn't seem to go even after taking appropriate medicines. My question here is, is this a symptom of HIV in initial stage. I don't see any other symptoms as of now, but i am getting nervous day by day as my throat irritation docent seem to go at all even after strong medicines. I have never had such thing before. Could you please kindly advise whether i need to see a doctor or the above symptom is not concerned to HIV. I am not able to concentrate o any thing since this has started

Many Thanks

Answer
Dear Roger:

Peace and all good things to you.  First, I am not a physician, but have expertise in HIV/AIDS as a longtime educator and director of a training program for physicians.

Secondly, the fluids from which you'd contract HIV in this situation are blood, semen, or vaginal secretions.  If you weren't exposed to those fluids in any significant amount here, you're not at risk for HIV infection.  Subsequently I would suspect you have a medical issue that is not HIV and should consult with your doctor.

Best to you and yours,

Terry
