Question
What if you drink out of a cup that someone with AIDS drunk out of but it was washed before you drunk out of it?
You didn't drink out of until weeks after the person with AIDS drunk out of it.Does this mean that you have AIDS too then?

Answer
Dear Corrina:

Peace and all good things.  Drinking out of a cup immediately afterwards is of no risk.  The fluids that transmit HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, are blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and in some cases, breast milk.  There must be sufficient fluid present, and even touching these fluids won't necessarily cause you to become infected.  Please go to www.avert.org or www.unaids.org to read more about how HIV is transmitted and how it is not.  We are in need of more informed people to help us fight the spread of this virus, please become aware of the risks and how to protect yourself, then share good information with others.

Best to you and yours,

Terry
