Question
dear sir
i am 23 year old male...i hav had no sexual contact in my life with anyone before untill 4 and a half months ago i had insertive fellatio with a female whose hiv status is unknown..she had my penis in her mouth for less than 10 seconds and it was not harsh or wild...it was very gentle...i did not hav any open sores or cuts on my penis...nothing at all....after she had my penis in her mouth for 9 seconds i felt very guilty and bad and so i stopped immediately...i went back home and washed my penis...from that day i was scared i had hiv...and so i started washing my penis with soap( perfumed soap) a lot..like twice daily and i used to wash it harshly....after washing my penis continuosly for about 2 months with soap that also twice daily..i developed a very small red rash ang 1 bump on my glans and foreskin...i got scared and started washing it even more with perfumed soap...meanwhile i had no other symptoms of hiv on my body..nothing at all...also no itching on my penis,no pain while urinating,,just a small rash and 2 bumps....then after washing my penis continously till 3 months i read somewhere on the net that excessive washing of penis with soap can cause inflammation coz i was really washing it a LOOTTT...so i stopped washing it after 3 months of insertive fellatio...after i stopped washing i realized some reddness was going away but it used to come in some other spot but no itches no pain nothing...still no other symptoms of hiv...now it has been almost 4 and a half months since insertive fellatio and most of my red rsh has gone away but still a red rash is under my foreskin and a bump on my glans..and no other hiv symptoms till now....can these bumps or rash  be due to the excessive washing of the penis with soap coz i really washed a lot with soap for about 2 months and washed it twice daily and harshly...plz reply soon

Answer
Dear Karan:

Peace.  I so hope you are in a country where you can get tested for sexually transmitted disease and HIV - a simple blood test can relieve all your fears about this and give you some peace.

Excessive anything - including worry - can damage health.  The chances of your contracting HIV in the situation you describe are so low as to be almost non-existent, and the possibility you contracted something else that can be easily treated would be determined by such a test.

Please see your doctor and explain that you noticed the bumps and are concerned - you don't have to describe your possible risk if you don't want to.

Best to you and yours,

Terry
