Question
Dear Terry

A day ago, I had unprotected oral sex with a female of unknown sexual status.  I did not ejaculate, and did not notice any blood or bleeding, but truthfully, I didn't really look.  I finally asked her to stop, coming to my senses.  She did look very malnutritioned, if that means anything.  Lately, I have had red bumps on the head of my penis, and severe itching in my genital area, but this was before the event took place.  I think it's a yeast infection, but am not sure.  Since I did not cum, and saw no blood, but with the state of my genitalia in mind, how great is my risk of transmission from her to me?  Does the infection make it worse?  Please help!!!

Answer
Dear Ashamed:

Peace.  Guilt and shame do nothing to help you take charge of your health and understand yourself and your desires.  Your ejaculating would have put her at greater risk if you had an infection, it does little to increase your risk.  The presence of "bumps" and itching may indicate a number of things, and if present before your encounter, do place you at some increased risk of transmission of sexually transmitted infection - but statistics suggest your risk from oral sex are low.  It is my strong recommendation that you see a health professional immediately to diagnose your bumps and itching; while there be tested for sexually transmitted infections including HIV.  Don't let guilt and shame stand in your way, what has happened is now in the past and this is an opportunity to be responsible to yourself and your loved ones, present and future.

The best to you and yours,

Terry
