Question QUESTION: what could have happened for a man to discharge blood instead of sperm. Is this a disease or a sign of contacting HIV? I will appreciate if this question could be answered.
ANSWER: Hi Alex,
It is not a sign of HIV but more align with a problem with your prostate gland. The color of the blood is important. If it is reddish, then it is flesh. If it is brownish-chocolate color, then it is due to a previous bleed. The most common problem can be a simple tear in the prostate gland's small vein and typically is a one-time event that does not need medical evaluation. Other uneventful causes may be frequent ejaculation, excessive alcohol use prior to sex, or minor trauma. If you are experiencing more than one episode, there is a possibility of an inflammation of the prostate which needs to be evaluated by your physician or urologist.

QUESTION: Thanks for answering my question. Another question i have is that is it possible for a man without HIV to impregnate HIV positive woman without the man contacting the HIV. i know of artificila insemination but here in Africa is not common and probably not available.
May be there is a drug available to surpress it when there is intercourse and the virus will not affect the man.
Answer There's no other way except artificial insemination or IVF. I personally do not recommend having a child from a mother who is HIV+ unless she clearly understands the risk to the child. Once the child is delivered, the child must be immediately treated for HIV to decrease the risk of seroconversion. This does not guarantee that the child will be cured.
