Question
Hi Doctor,

I have done something stupid and regrettably cant take back.

I got drunk and slept with 2 prostitutes. They both performed oral sex (with a condom on) and i had vaginal intercourse with them as well.

The condoms i used were government issued condoms, does this mean that the quality of the condoms were not as good?

I am very anxious at the moment, as i am worried that i have contracted HIV/AIDS.

From what i remember ( I was drunk ) the condoms did not break, and both times i ejaculated outside of her vagina.

What are the chances that i caught HIV? I am too scared to go for the test, as just now it says that I am positive.

Thank for your time
Jonathan

Answer
Hello Jonathan,

Thanks for asking the question. Let's discuss the issue you mentioned. If condom is used properly, consistently and throughout the sexual interaction, and someone did not experienced condom break, the chance of being HIV infected is very low (having protected sex is considered safer sex, not totally safe). Ejaculation inside or outside vagina is not the factor here. All that matters is how condom was used and was it protected one.

It would be better if you mentioned the date you had sex, so that we can discuss the window period of HIV. Window period is the time in between performing a risk behavior and getting tested. It can be up to 3/4 weeks. During this period, few tests may come up with false positive results. Also, since many experts agree that all the tests are not fully accurate, performing more than one tests is better to get concluding results.

It is better getting tested to get concluding results, rather than being worried dear Jonathan. So, I can request you to get tested. Please consult a specialist. Don't worry, we are by your side as always.

Sincere regards,
Gorkey

Note: I am not a medical doctor. I only tried to nurture my expertise in the sector of HIV-AIDS and STI, but do feel that the clinical issues will be better explained by experts of that area. Therefore, I requested to get tested.
