Question
I have tested for HIV  a week after I had an unprotected sex. my doctor called me 4 days later to tell me my results are not back from the Lap as they are not showing whether i'm positive or negative, that the Lab advised that I must go for PCR test after 2 weeks. what are my chances for being infected with the HIV virus? I have been taking Duromine tablets to lose weight n morning after pill 43 hours after unprotected sex. can this contribute to my results or is it early infection?

Answer
hi,

having an hiv test one week after sexual activitiy is premature. there is no test out there which would confirm your status that quickly. the most advanced test requires at least two weeks from date of exposure for accuracy. there are more than one type of hiv.

AIDS
