Question
Can you catch AIDS/HIV if the condom breaks but no seman enters the body

Answer
Dear TinkTink:

Peace and Happy World AIDS Day!  For all the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, today is also an opportunity to be thankful for the courageous people who battle this disease.

The fluids that transmit HIV include semen, which is part of what fills a condom at time of ejaculation in 'protected' intercourse; it is also the fluid that seeps (sometimes callled precum) from the urethra (opening at the end of the penis).  The condom serves to augment the body's natural barriers against disease; the fluids that lubricate the vagina (vaginal secretions) and semen (even precum) both contain enough virus in an infected person to transmit HIV.  Note, however, that when a condom is used, the amount of fluids and time (duration) of exposure are reduced.  This lessens the risk.

I hope this helps.

Peace.
