AIDS/Can I get HIV from French kissing with a small ulcer at back of mouth

Question
If she was bleeding like you said, would I have tasted the blood, cus I never tasted any?

Are all Ulcers open because mine was not bleeding, so does that mean it is not open?

Also I have decided not to have a STD check based on this one french kiss. Do you agree with my decision?

Also my ulcer was at the back of my mouth, is that a benifit in my case?

Thanks Kyle

Answer
Dear Kyle:

Peace.  Let me address your questions one at a time.

1) Tasting seems a risky way of trying to determine if someone is bleeding.
2) HIV targets cells (lymphocytes and macrophagic cells) which are present in both open cuts and healing wounds and infections.  Presence of an ulceration is a dangerous potential portal of entry for HIV and other infections.
3) As offered earlier, deep or tongue kissing in and of itself is very low risk for HIV transmission; knowing your STD status, however, is what I would recommend for anyone seeking to be responsible for their own health and that of those they love.
4) The ulceration being at the back of your mouth is of little consequence. Depending on where it is, it may be exposed to many fluids passing through the mouth, or, alternatively, be exposed for long periods of time to fewer fluids.

I hope this is helpful; I would ask you to keep in mind that you are not only directing your behavior but also learning about your sexuality (and substance use patterns).  Some would argue that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior; knowing yourself, your health status, learning more about risk reduction techniques and having the necessary equipment (including barrier protection) may help you reduce or avoid risk in the future.

I wish you the best.
