Question
Hello - A coworker who was "talking with their hands" accidentally back-handed me the other day right in the mouth.  Upon doing this, my lip was cut (I think on my tooth) and one of my teeth also made a tiny cut on his finger.  I am trying to find out the likelihood of contracting HIV this way - is it likely that the cut on his finger would begin to bleed so instantaneously that the blood could have gotten on my cut lip and/or in my mouth?  I ran to the sink and rinsed my mouth for a few seconds and then immediately rinsed my mouth and lip with vodka (work in a restaurant).  I am a mommy and am so scared that I could have gotten HIV :/

Answer
Dear Jamie:

Peace.  I read much urgency in your message so I will give a quick answer: There is no way you could have contracted HIV in the manner you describe.  For more detail, feel free to read through this forum and the many answers to similar questions.

Have a great day.
