Question
I was diagnosed with HPV when I was pregnant with my daughter.  My husband and I continued intercourse.  It is three years later and he just started having symptoms of wart on the head of his penis.  He has just had blood work done and he want to know if it is possible for him to be HIV positive?

Answer
I would say this isn't a sign of HIV and more along the lines of HPV.  There isn't a test for men for HPV as far as I know.  I was diagnosed with it and they said I was lucky cause I only had sex with one guy so I knew who gave it to me.  I was actually cleared of the virus they say 90% of young people can get rid of it and 10% it will go into remission and come back in later years.  Pregnancy will also make it reoccur some of the times.  So there is hope though that it will go away.  But I am not anywhere near convinced that it is signs of HIV.  Most people don't show signs for years, and by years I mean 5-10 years later.  Besides, with you being diagnosed with HPV and him getting warts then I would automatically assume that you transferred it to him.  Which, this is so common it is not funny.  Studies show that pretty much everyone who is sexually active has become infected with HPV and doesn't know it because the virus usually goes away.  What happens is cells are constantly dying, every 120 days to be exact.  When apoptosis occurs,(cell death), your body will shed them through your vagina.  When this happens that is how the virus is transmitted.  So this appears to me to be a result of you shedding dead cells.  I really hope this helps you, keep me posted and feel free to e-mail me if you have any more questions.

Experience

I am attending school for my licenses to teach in Cell and Molecular divison, this is a recent change in my career I was going to school for surgical technology. We have to know all about STDS and other diseases. My personal experience is I have HPV. It is not AIDS or HIV but it is a STD that can cause cancer. I had to deal with the stages of feeling dirty and unworthy and scared. I think that I can help people get past this and further their knowledge of HIV and AIDS.
