Question
Please help.  I had uunprotected virgina sex with a women who I later found out that she is a prostitute and drug user.  I inserted my penis into her virgina and ejaculated after 3 strokes and pull it out after.  I don't know if she is HIV positive or not.  What are my odds of getting HIV is she is positive.

Thanks.

Answer
Dear Sam:

Peace.  Unprotected vaginal intercourse with this person was risky.  The risk is increased if you have a sexually transmitted disease (sores or openings on the skin of your penis) or infection.  The short duration of your exposure to her vaginal secretions (three strokes) reduces your risk somewhat, but this is a risky situation.  I cannot give you "odds" but what you describe as contributing to her risk is cause for concern.  On the other hand, the short duration of your exposure, and what you describe as only one encounter, argue in favor of an infection being less likely.

I would recommend that you go to an HIV counseling and testing center in your area and speak directly to someone who can help you and offer you testing.

I hope this helps; one exposure in a risky situation as you describe is unlikely to transmit HIV but it is possible.

The best to your and yours, please be tested and in the meantime protect yourself and others from possible transmission.

Sincerely,

Terry
