Question
Hi Terry!I performed oral sex on a guy (I´m male as well) only once and he did not ejaculate in my mouth. Later, some friends told me he could be HIV positive but he did not confirm that issue. I got worried and lost. I had 2 ELISAS (3rd generation) done, the first one at 84 days mark and the other one at 94 days mark from the risky episode, both negative. I´m from Brazil and tests here in São Paulo are very reliable. Regarding my specific exposure, do I have to be tested once again at 6 months? CDC says that people who have been in a "considerable" contact with a known positive person should be tested at 6 months.Do I fit in this situation? Thank you and congratulations! God bless you!

Answer
Dear Ale:

Peace.  I would presume that you were not infected due to the results from your previous tests; the six month mark is the optimal date to capture as close to all possible positives including persons with immune anomalies.  If it gives you greater peace of mind, go ahead and be tested.  I am familiar with the Infectious Disease Society of Brazil and some of your wonderful providers and programs; you are the one who deserves congratulations.

Peace and good health,

Terry
