AIDS/Touching a toilet seat...and then myself?

Question
I feel a bit embarrassed asking this question because I don't know if I'm just being crazy. I have a history of OCD and obsessing about things like this to the point where I can convince myself it's true, so I was hoping you could help me out.

I avoid public toilets as much as I can, but I didn't have much choice this time. I was hovering over the toilet (instead of actually sitting on it), and lost my balance in the process. My hands touched the toilet seat until I was done going to the bathroom, and then I immediately touched my vagina just seconds after. I keep freaking out and wondering if it's possible that there was some stuff on the seat that I just didn't see, and then got it into my vagina? What are the chances of this happening, or getting HIV, or any kind of STD from a situation like this?

I'm really hoping you can ease my mind a bit.

Answer
Dear Rose:

Peace. I have several friends who live with OCD and it can be a real challenge.  I hope you are working with a therapist, as there are many promising treatments available.

Your chances of getting an infection from what you describe is .. none.

You can peruse previous answers in this forum if you want more detailed explanations.  I thought I would save you the time and trouble.

I wish you and yours the very best, and best of health in your progress with OCD.

Sincerely,

Terry
