Answer
Dear Manasa:

Peace and all good things.  Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a collection of diseases or conditions that was recognized in the late 1970's - and about which we have learned much over the past thirty years.   We know today that it is caused by a virus (HIV) which attacks the cells the body uses to fight off disease.  It is passed most often by blood, semen, vaginal secretions, and/or breast milk from one infected person to another.

Much more information on HIV disease is available here and some other sites, such as www.thebody.com have extensive information for you to read and review.

Thank you for your interest in what is one of the deadliest diseases facing our world.

Sincerely,

Terry
