Question
i need to know that during sex between a man and a woman, can HIV be transmitted from a woman to man , and her vagina didnt produce fluids yet or its only a bit wet, and how long the sex should last for this transmission to appear in case she was infected.

thx

Answer
Dear Kim:

Yes, a woman can transmit HIV to a man.  The fluids produced by the vagina need not be of high volume; blood and menstrual fluids also contain HIV in high concentrations in an infected person.  The longer the duration of the exposure, the greater the risk, but any exposure is risky.  The number of times of exposure, whether a person is receptive (receiving the fluids), the presence of breaks or sores, other infections, and whether the infected person is being effectively treated for HIV is also a consideration.

I hope this helps you in your assessment of risk.

The best to you and yours.
