Answer
After a person becomes infected with HIV, they may develop what is called acute viral syndrome which is the body's response to being infected with a virus. It is very similar to the flu with fatigue, swollen glands, possibly diarrhea. But not all people experience this syndrome. It usually occurs a week to two weeks after infection and then goes away. The person may not have any other symptoms of infection until they have progressed to having AIDS when they are susceptible to a number of illnesses.

There is no way to know if someone is infected or not except being tested.
