Question
QUESTION: I am a healthy 30 years old circumcised male. I had sex with a chinese prostitute
last night in kuwait, however, i did not use a condom for the first minute or so
of the intercourse. I then came to my senses and used one.
What is the risk of me contracting aids in the short time i didnt use a condom?

ANSWER: Anytime infected blood, semen, vaginal fluid and/or breast milk enter another person's body, transmission is possible. That's about all I can tell you- if you want to know your status, you need to get tested.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: How about this ratio everyone is talking about.. the 1 in 1,000 chance of getting
aids by vaginal sex.. is that ratio true.. it sounds very promising. It seems that
you have to have very bad luck to get it.

Answer
I don't work in statistics because there are many things that can affect whether a person contracts HIV or not- not just the type of unprotected sex that they have. I cannot say one way or another what the "chance" is for each individual because there are different individual factors that affect risk.
