Question
i had safe sex a couple weeks ago but i made a huge mistake when it was time to take off my condom, after taking it off the outside of the condom touched my penis. is it possible to have HIV if the other person does? or any std?

Dear John:

Peace.  Sexual activity rarely occurs in a controlled, sterile, well-lighted setting with good infection control procedures.  Your risk here is in coming in contact with the blood, semen, or vaginal secretions of a person infected.  In this case, the amount of fluid (tiny), the duration (brief) and frequency (once) of the exposure would make this extremely low risk.  Some other infections, including Herpes, are more easily transmitted, but again, the same factors mediate the chances of transmission.  Short answer, it is possible - but highly unlikely.
