Hello Kristen:

I had a questionable sex partner more than 3 months ago, i recently got an HIV home test kit and tested negative for HIV. I am experiencing recurring yeast infection. 3 so far for the past 3 months. is it possible to be in the "Window Period" and to have such a symptom? or does yeast infection one of the symptoms that appear later on when the  immune system is really weak? Also is it possible to transmit the virus if i performed oral sex on my partner without having him ejaculate?

I would really appreciate it if you can answer my questions. Liz

By 3 months, *most* people are outside of the window period...however, there is a minority of people who take longer and unfortunately, there is no way to know who falls into that category.

Symptoms for HIV take years to develop in most people. There is no way I can say anything for certain, but I would think that you would not be having yeast infections as a result of HIV this early.

But, since you have had 3 in 3 months, it is important to see a doctor. If you are self-treating, then you may not be getting rid of the yeast completely, which is why it keeps coming back. Or, it may not be a yeast infection but another type of vaginal infection. Sometimes people will mistake bacterial vaginosis or another infection for yeast. If you are having sex, it could be a reaction to sperm, or latex condoms. It could be a number of things. As a woman, I have dealt with this stuff before so I know it isnt fun and can be worrisome. I would just recommend seeing a doctor before you start worrying about HIV. More than likely, it is something easy to treat.

As for oral sex- yes, it is *possible* for a man to transmit HIV without ejaculating because preseminal fluid also carries the virus. But, oral sex with ejaculation carries less of a risk than unprotected vaginal and anal sex and without ejaculation even less of a risk.
