Question
What are the disk drive requirements to upgrade to this version or higher?

Answer
Version 5.4 requires a 17gig load source drive (or higher). This drive can be part of a parity set and have a 'parity stripe' on the drive.

Starting with V6R1, the load source drive must be a 'full capacity' 17gig drive-if it is part of a parity set, it cannot have the parity striping on the drive. You can easily tell this by looking at the model designation in service tools. '70' indicates part of a parity set, but full capacity. '72', '74', and '78' indicate part of a parity set, but reduced capacity due to the 'parity stripe'.

In addition to the disk size requirement, there is a LIC space extension utility which must be run before doing the upgrade. It is documented in the Software Installation manual and also on the Upgrade preparation section of Licensed Programs.
