The AS/400 is one of a family of IBM midrange business computers unlike a PC or PC network.  It is a very reliable system, intended for use by many users at the same time.  Entry-level models can be small, but they can grow to be very large, sometimes rivaling mainframe computers. They use an operating system called OS/400 that is proprietary to IBM and the AS/400.  It can easily link to a PC network, and PC's with the proper emulation software can be used as workstations. It can be made to print easily to any PC printer with an IP address. It can be programmed in many different languages, most often in RPG/400 or COBOL. The specific rules for how you use AS/400 software depend on the software package your company uses.
