Hello Dr. Joan,
I am very ashamed of myself for even asking this question, however I have had four abortions and am thinking about the 5th. My concern is that I may not be able to become pregnant again after so many procedures. I am terrified and need help making a decision.

Dear Barbara,
You should be fine having a 5th abortion, and you are not alone.  Many women are in this situation.  There are many countries in the world where this is completely normal.  The most safe procedures are the abortion pill and the aspiration procedure for early abortion (see earlyabortion.com).  These procedures are 100% safe for future pregnancies because they do not interfere with the endometrial lining of the uterus.  Normally, surgical abortion is also very safe, although there is an extremely rare complication that can affect fertility.
