Abortion/Do I have to have stopped bleeding before I can get pregnant?

Question
I had an abortion 3 weeks ago, at 12.5 weeks due to the baby being very unwell!  Hardest thing I've ever had to do!

I really want to have a baby, so much!  I am still spotting and am wondering whether I can still get pregnant when spotting or already be pregnant!  I've just started getting sore breast the last 5 days so am wondering if it is early pregnancy signs?

Thanks for your help!!

Answer
Dear Anne,
You can get pregnant when you are spotting or even bleeding after an abortion.  If you are pregnant, it is completely safe to continue the pregnancy.  A pregnancy test may not be reliable, since it is likely to be positive from the prior pregnancy.  You can check one today, then recheck another one in a week. If it is getting darker, it is a new pregnancy.
Good luck!  I'm sure if you're not pregnant now, you will be able to get pregnant soon.
