Abortion/Abortion

Question
I had an abortion last month, and i never thought i'd be in that position in my life. I've always been pro-choice, but pro-life for myself. It has been very difficult for me dealing with it all. I didn't want to have to do it, however i felt it was the best decision for me in respect to my circumstances. I recently got back together with the love of my life, and we plan on getting married in the near future. We really want to have a baby together and we are planning on trying near the first of the year. Is it possible to get pregnant 3 months after a medical abortion?  I was told i have an inverted or retroverted uterus. They told me years ago it may be difficult for me to get pregnant. Is there anything i can do to increase my chances for pregnancy? I do have 2 children already, and it took 6-8 months for me to get pregnant both times. That's why i was so shocked when i found out i was unexpectedly pregnant the last time. That kind of thing just doesn't happen to me. I'm not your average "fertile mertile" type of woman. I know from my past pregnancies, it takes lots of trying for me. I was wondering if there is anything i can do to make it happen sooner?  Thank you Dr. Joan, your answers to questions have really helped me and been extremely informative.

Answer
Dear Dee,
You don't need to wait for three months to start trying to get pregnant after a medical abortion, or the abortion pill.  You can go ahead and start trying right away.  A retroverted uterus doesn't indicate anything unusual - it's completely normal - like being left handed instead of right handed.  There is some thinking that women with retroverted uteruses are more likely to get pregnant - but there's no real research on the subject.  There are lots of websites and information on increasing fertility, but this is outside my area of expertise.
You have to think of these situations in a positive light - it helped you to become clearer about what you really want.  You can be thankful that this happened, and that you had the opportunity to take a fresh look at the priorities of your life.  If you had a medical abortion, you must have had an early pregnancy, and you must have ended it before the pregnancy had a chance to develop.  You don't know what would have happened with this particular pregnancy.
Good luck trying!  Sometimes it just takes time to get pregnant.  I do see women becoming more fertile as they get older, so it's possible it won't take so long this time.
