Abortion/Bleeding after Medical Abortion

Question
I had a medical abortion on 9/27. I stopped bleeding after the first day, and had spotting for a few days. I started back on my birth control a week after the abortion. On 10/10, I began bleeding, like a heavy period, and still continue to bleed. This makes 12 days at this point. Could this be my period? I only have some cramps every now and again, and otherwise feel fine. I just can't figure out why I'd be bleeding for so long, and why I began bleeding at all, since I've been taking the birth control pill as instructed?

Dear Brenna,

Did you go for your post abortion checkup? If not, I would urge you to do that. Or go to your regular doctor to see if this is excessive bleeding. What kind of birth control are you using, the pill? I can't give you a diagnosis online but please seek medical advice.
