Hi Dr. Joan, Thank you for answering my past question. I was relieved to know I could have a glass of wine. I am now wondering if taling birth control pills will help stop the bleeding. It has been two weeks since my abortion and I have been bleeding (as if a light to regular period) regularly. When will this stop? Will taking the pills help cease this? Thank you, Jassmmine.

The bleeding after a medical abortion is unfortunately normal, and the birth control pills probably won't help with this. More than 50% of women bleed more than 6 weeks after the abortion pill. This is why RU486 or mifepristone is not so popular. Try to ignore it as much as possible, and it will go away on its own time, and you will go back to regular periods. If you start to bleed heavily (2 pads/2 hours) - you should call your doctor's office.
