Question
hi...
i had a surgical abortion 7 weeks ago... i only bled for the first 2 or 3 days afterwards... i have been having sex with my boyfriend using the pull out method (although ive since read that isnt fool proof due to the precum)... all the signs of pregnancy went away very quickly.. but 2 days ago i had the lightest watery bit of blood that i saw on the toilet paper... it was like the implantation bleeding i had when i was previously pregnant... i havent had any signs of my period yet and i havent taken a pregnancy test because from what i read the hormones could still be there from last time... so... despite not feeling pregnant,

could i be?
and is it worth taking a pregnancy now- will it b accurate?
and is there any other reason for light spotting?

thanks,
nikki

Answer
Dear Nikki,
It is possible but unlikely that you are pregnant - the pullout method really is not very reliable, but it really depends on how good he is at pulling out.  Spotting blood is not really a sign of pregnancy, especially after an abortion.  Spotting comes and goes commonly for the first two months after an abortion.  As far as the pregnancy test goes, it should be negative by now.  A pregnancy test will usually become positive about 10 days after unprotected sex or conception.  So, if it's been 10 days and the test in negative, you are probably fine.  If you don't get your period, try again in a week.  Hopefully you will be able to find help getting on a better form of birth control.
I hope this is helpful,
