Abortion/post aboration clots

Question
Hi and thanks for taking the time
I am 32 and just had my abortion (first and only) 3w ago surgically
Post abortion I had moderate to mild vaginal bleeding and "normal" pain
I just came from a follow up  exam (i.e. had  post pregnancy test twice and both came negative), I mention to the nurse that I have been experiencing "distended abdomen" sensation and lingering nausea. Then  2 days ago I started to notice small amount of brown like vaginal d/c. She proceeded with ultrasound vaginal exam and said that there are  few remaining blood clots. In her opinion there should be no bleeding or d/c between week 3-4 post abortion . She recommended that if those brown spotting continue in the upcoming 3-4 days that I should go under anesthesia / sedation once again to perform "re aspiration" (i.e. remove the clots). I really want to avoid doing the procedure, the abortion was very hard for me. my body does not take kindly to  Anastasia.

Is it normal to have just a little bit of" brown bleeding" 3 weeks after the abortion.
Is there a chance that those clots will flash out with my next period?
Is it absolutely necessary to remove those clots surgically and if should I do it immediately?

Thanks again

Answer
Hello Nancy,

Thanks for your question. Some bleeding is "common" after abortion. But if this nurse recommends this procedure, you might want to make sure. If some of the parts of the baby were left inside you, this could cause major infection and is very dangerous. Don't avoid this procedure if it is "necessary". You could have a second opinion. Be careful about your body and your health.

I'm not a doctor but if I were you, if you keep having the bleeding, you should have the procedure. Go by the medical opinion.
