Question
Hi Dr Joan

I am married for last three and half years. During the first year of marriage i got an abortion through abortion pills at 6 weeks. In the second year again I underwent abortion at 5 weeks with same method. This year I concieved in April(somewhere 6th or 7th), but had a miscaariage and underwent suction procedure on July 1.

I was advised to wait for 6 months before getting pregnant again. What are my chances of becoming pregnant, and if I do so, what are the chnaces of a successful pregnancy. I am quite scared, what if I;m not able to concieve?

Please help.
Thank you

Answer
Dear Usha,
There is no reason to wait for six months to get pregnant again.  You can go ahead and start trying.  There should be no reason that you should not be able to a have a successful pregnancy.  Abortion does not interfere with your fertility, or your ability to carry a pregnancy.  If you have had periods since your abortion, you are able to get pregnant.
Good luck, and start trying!
