Hello, I went with my friend today to an abortion clinic. She went to terminate her pregnancy. The clinic informed her that she was 5 wks pregnant, but they could not do the abortion due to her having a fibroid. They did not say how big the fibroid was, but told her that she would need to see a GYN. My question is why would she need to see a Gyn and will she still be able to terminate the pregnancy? Is this a common practice with women who want to terminate but have a fibroid?

Thanks for your question. I just did some research and did find out (which I did not know) that you cannot have an abortion if you have a large uterine fibroid. I also read that it is somewhat common to have a fibroid during pregnancy. It says it is non-cancerous in the article I read. So I haven't been able to find out why you can't have an abortion. There must be some risk so I'm sure there was a health reason why they wouldn't go through with it. I do advise your friend NOT to have an abortion. There are many risks and dangers to abortion. If you really care about here, I would offer her other alternatives and show her what she is actually doing. Let me know if I can help any further.
