Abortion/six weeks after abortion and no period yet

Question
It's been six weeks since my medical abortion. I had gone for my checkup at the doctor after the procedure and she did a pelvic exam and I took a pregnancy test, after which she said that everything looked ok...the procedure was successful. However, it's been six weeks now and I still haven't got my period. Is this too long a time that has passed? Thanks for your advice.

Answer
Dear Jessica,
This is completely normal.  I've seen it take 1-3 months before getting your normal period again.  There is nothing to be concerned about as long as your pregnancy test is negative.  It will come back to normal.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
