Abortion/pregnancy after medical abortion

Question
Dear doctor, I am afraid to ask this question in the clinic although I have a consultation tomorrow with the doctor who conducted the medical abortion, as they will say I am absolutely stupid (which apparently I am). I just had a medical abortion and I passed the pregnancy on Thursday, 15 of January. I was bleeding for almost a week and still had very little brown blood on Tuesday 20 of January when we had an unprotected sex with my boyfriend again. Although he did not ejaculate inside (at least that what he says) I am feeling pregnant with a bit of nausea and tender breasts again. I wonder if there is a chance of me getting pregnant so quickly after the abortion again with any sort of pre-cum or it is still the pregnancy hormones remaining after the abortion. Also, if i be any miracle I get pregnant again, how safe it is to have a baby conceived just after a medical abortion. Please, help me to clarify all these issues as I do not have anybody to ask these questions in person. I live in Belgium, with good medical care, but still a lot of emotional and psychological pressure from all of this.

Answer
Dear Alla,
This is not a stupid question.  In fact, it is a very common situation that happens after ending a pregnancy.  I'm sorry you don't feel comfortable talking openly with your doctor.

The chances of you getting pregnant are possible, though very unlikely.  If you are having nausea and tenderness in your breasts, the most important thing to do is to make sure that the medical abortion worked, and you do not have any remaining tissue.  Even if you did get pregnant again, it would be much too soon to be causing pregnancy symptoms.

If you were pregnant again, medically there would be no concern with continuing or ending the pregnancy.

I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
