Question
Dr Joan, Ok on sept 23rd i found out i was pregnant thru a visit to the er for a uti . Im kinda confused about this because i took the morning after pill on sept 8th . 30 hours after having sex & the condom broke . Does the plan b pill not always work? Also i was wondering if your office offered any type of low income discounts. As i am looking to have the aspiration procedure done at your office. Also do you except nj medicaid ? Thanks for reading.

Answer
Dear Nicole,
Yes, Plan B can fail 10-20% of the time, depending on how soon you take it after unprotected sex.  Unfortunately we see many women who have failed Plan B.  Yes, our office does offer discounts, especially to women who find us through this site.  Our phones are open from 7:30-6 today, and 10-9 tomorrow. Unfortunately we do not accept NJ Medicaid.  It is worth the trip and money to avoid an abortion clinic experience in New Jersey - I have heard many unfortunate stories of low quality of care.  In addition, they usually recommend surgical abortion rather than Aspiration Abortion.  Surgical abortion involves scraping and electric suction, whereas the Aspiration procedure involves the use of a gentle manual device that does not cause damage to the uterus.  For early pregnancy, surgical abortion is overly invasive.

The Aspiration procedure is the most safe and simple way to end early pregnancy.  It only takes a few minutes, and since it is nonsurgical, you recover immediately.  We take very good care of you in our office, and you will feel good about your decision when you leave.  Make sure to read reviews of our office at: http://newyork.citysearch.com/review/47310472

I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
