Question
Hi
I want to know how likely is it that I become pregnant and how soon can I tell. I had a surgical abortion on 10/16/09 and me and my partner had unprotected sex 3 times in less than 2 weeks since the abortion. I want to get pregnant and the abortion was a mistake.

Answer
Hello, Jasmi,

Nobody really knows how readily you will become pregnant. Only time will tell.

Unfortunately, I have a virus on my own machine, so I will have to keep this brief, but I will give you a longer answer when I have my computer fixed.

You may need to talk about the emotional issues you are facing. When I come back, I will be able to discuss that with you as well.

Just keep trying, and be patient. Good luck!

PS I am able to write more now. It sounds like you do have some emotional issues to address, since you have said that your abortion was a mistake. This is a very common reaction, and the emotional consequences are not trivial. There is counseling available, and you may find this very helpful. You can find an organization near you that will provide counseling. Go here:

http://www.heartbeatinternational.org/worldwide_directory.asp

Choose your country from the country list (I don't remember where you said you were from). There may be multiple pages. To find contact information, click on "Details". I hope and pray that you will be able to deal with your feelings and the spiritual issues connected to your having made the mistake of getting an abortion. Please take care, and I'll be here any time you need to talk.

Expertise

I can help women with the consideration of their decision, and with resources, and I can share my own experiences as the mother of seven and grandmother of eleven. My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
