Question
Hello- I had an abortion on sep. 11th 2009..I was 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant. It will soon be 6 weeks from the abortion and pregnancy tests are still coming up positive (also no period..only bled for about 12 days after abortion). They are faint, but still positive. I started taking birth control pills on sept. 14th. We did wait the recommended 14 days to have sex, however it was unprotected since i started the pill. could the pill of not been working yet? i am starting to get worried..my boobs are getting sore..i could just be paranoid. All the websites i have looked at say the hormones should be gone within 4 weeks or so after an abortion. Could i be pregnant again..or is the positive test results from my previous pregnancy? I am starting to worry, all the symptoms of pregnancy WERE gone, no complications, everything went fine after the procedure.

Answer
Dear Lauren,

You could still have the pregnancy hormones in your body, in my opinion. However, it is still possible that you are pregnant again. I can't say for sure over the internet.  I would recommend that you go to a local pregnancy resource center and perhaps they can help you there. I know they have free pregnancy tests and usually free ultrasounds, if that would be helpful. To find a center, go to http://www.optionline.org or call 1-800-395-HELP. Another helpful website is

You can email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know what happens.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
