Abortion - bleeding after abortion

Expert: Dr. Harriet Johnson - 10/30/2009

Question
i had an abortion 4 weeks ago. after 2 weeks the bleeding had stopped. me and my boyfriend has sex a couple of times during the next week but now the bleeding has started up again. is this ok or is there something wrong?

Answer
Hi Ashley,

As long as you aren't experiencing pain with the bleeding then this is normal as you may bleed irregularly for a while after an abortion. You don't need to worry yet, if the bleeding continues, visit your doctor to check for any left over tissue in your uterus.
