My close friend was about one month pregnant and didn't want to keep it, then she took 1,000 mg of Misoprostol (Cytotec) one night. At dawn, she experienced that there were some bobs of blood coming out of her but this didn't last the entire day. She took a pregnancy test afterwards, but the line was faint.
It's about two months now and she still hasn't seen her menses but do experience pains just below her navel once in a while. Is there something wrong? Is the pregnancy still there? Is two months without experiencing her menses normal? What should she do? Take the drugs again? Please i anticipate your response. Thank you very much.
Answer Dear Rick,
The first and most important step would be for her to check a pregnancy test again, and make sure it is negative. I assume she does not have any pregnancy symptoms, like breast tenderness, or nausea. If she does, she should take a blood pregnancy test because it is the most accurate. If the pregnancy tests are negative, the pregnancy is over and she does not need to repeat the medications. As long as the the pregnancy test is negative, it is common and normal to have a delayed period after ending a pregnancy. I have seen it take up to 3 months to return to normal.
If the pregnancy test is positive it is important that she should see a doctor before taking the medications again.
I cannot tell you what the pains are that she is experiencing - but it seems from your description that they come and go, which usually does not indicate a serious problem. If it continues she may want to have an evaluation by a doctor.
