Question
hi, i want to know how accurate are store bought pregnancy test and i am a teenager less then 18 are abortions allowed without a parent 7 if so how long before conception can a abortion be performed?

Answer
Dear Lisa,
Store bought pregnancy tests are highly accurate.  The most accurate pregnancy tests have 2 lines on them (instead of words, like "pregnant").  They usually turn positive 1-2 weeks after conception.  If you have a negative test and have missed your period, it is best to check the test again in one week's time.  The earliest time that is most safe to have an abortion would be 3 weeks after conception, or about one week after you miss your first period.

I hope this answers your questions,
Doctor Joan
