Abortion/Black discharge after abortion

Question
Good day, I had an abortion some time ago, and now I had over a month without my menstruation and 3 days ago I start bleeding but the blood is black and very little. I am very worried, please advice I don't want to go to a Doctor because I don't want to admit I had an abortion.

Answer
Dear Julie,
There is nothing to be concerned with regarding dark or black blood after an abortion.  It just indicates that the blood sat in the uterus before it came down, so it was exposed to air, and turned dark (just like it would if you were bleeding from a cut on your skin).
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
