Question
I recently had an abortion on friday, and 3 days after had unprotected sex, I am still bleeding lightly but I am now having really bad cramping. I was only given 3 pills total (Avelox: the day of the abortion, 2 more for Sat & Sun) & a seperate prescription for Celebrex. Is this cramping normal? Will I get an infection from having unprotected sex? How long does the bleeding last?

Hi Sara,

I don't know if you were advised of this but you should have been directed not to have sex for a week or two after your abortion. Having sex can cause infection or other problems because your body is still recovering from the surgery. Did you have a post abortion checkup?

Also, there is no rule about how long your bleeding can last. Please let me know if you are still bleeding. Also, there is no such thing as "unprotected" sex. Anytime you have sex, you risk pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
