Question
QUESTION: You will think I am crazy. I took Mifeprex yesterday i tablet 200 mg. When I walked up today I felt so horrible I still can not stop crying. I DID NOT take misoprosto. I had no bleeding or cramping. I called my doctor saying that I think I had a miscarriage, but I did not tell her that I took the pill (I was so embraced). She checked my cervix, it was NOT dilating and she was trying to find a hart beat trough a dopier, but she said that so early in the pregnancy may not be felt by the dapper. I did not hear anything but my own hart but she said that she heard the heart twice for about 2-3 second. She did not do the ultrasound or she did not checked my hormones. She said to be back in a week. Do you think there is any chances I am still pregnant? Help...

ANSWER: Hello, Barbara,

First of all, I don't think you're crazy at all, and I hope the four hour delay in answering isn't a problem. Your reaction is very normal. Part of the problem with a pill abortion is when a woman changes her mind after taking part of the pills.

You didn't say how far along you are. This is important. If your doctor heard a heart beat, however brief, she should test your hormones immediately, and give you supplementary hormones. Mifeprex works by stopping the hormone progesterone, and women have had normal babies when they had a supplement regularly for as long as needed. So please go back immediately and ask your doctor to test your hormones and provide the necessary support.

Yes, there is definitely a possibility you are still pregnant. Let me know how far along you are, and I can possibly tell you more. And let me know what happens.

I am here for you. I will work with you about your feelings and help you to get past this dark time. Please take care of yourself. You are precious, and I care what happens to you.

QUESTION: Thank you for your answer. My last period was on October 28, so on the day I took the pill I was 8 weeks and 4 days from my period, I am calling my doctor right now to ask her for my blood work, thank you.

ANSWER: Hi, Barbara,

You're welcome.

Do more than just ask your doctor for your blood work. Tell her that if you are deficient in pregnancy hormones, you want supplementary hormones for as long as necessary to protect your baby. There is a very good chance that your baby is fine. The pill often doesn't work that late in pregnancy. If your doctor either gave you the pill in the first place, or she isn't willing to give hormones, then find another doctor immediately. The hormones may need to start right away. You can find one by finding a local organization that provides help for pregnant women. There is a list of organizations here:

http://www.pregnancycenters.org/

If you are unable to find one that way, write me a new note (let's go private) and I'll make some other recommendations. I check my email throughout the day, and I will try to check more often.

Please take care, and if it's something you do, pray. I will be here for you.

QUESTION: Maybe I should go to ER, the would do the ultrasound and finally my bloodwork, but would they give me the hormones?

Answer
Hi, Barbara,

The ER wouldn't give you the hormones. You would have to take them regularly for awhile, in all probability. That's why you're better off going to the doctor. Check the site I gave you, and get a recommendation for another doctor from your local organization. They should be aware of this, and if not, I can see if I can find a good link about it. The other danger is that the ER might panic and try to talk you into completing the abortion. And they can exert a lot of pressure.

I'll start looking for a good article. Take care.

My approach is to show love and concern, and help women work through the issues, emotional, spiritual, practical. I also help women deal with boyfriend and family issues. I am not a doctor, but I have done extensive medical research, so I may be able to help with information. I am female. When you write, if you are or were pregnant, please tell me how far along you were or are, and if you have had an abortion, please tell me what kind. Thank you.

Experience

I have been working with women who are considering abortion for several years. I also work with women who have had abortions. Our family has also experienced adoption, so I can talk about that as well.

Education/Credentials
I am mostly self-taught. I also studied midwifery for awhile. I have spent years doing research on this topic. In fact, I have been doing research and working in this area since the early 1970's. I have been helping women online for a few years, under the guidance of a woman who was formally training in counseling.
