Dear Dr. Joan,

I had medical Abortion on January 24th 2009 (in 6 weeks pregnancy) and the bleeding continued for 11 Feb. On Feb 11, I have done the Ultra scan and the doctor told me my pregnancy is over and the uterus is empty. And Dr. told me the next period will come in the next month like normal. But Yesterday (Feb 17)I have started bleeding again, like normal periods. Now, I am confused, only after 1 weeks time periods can be again? I had some spotting sometimes in between the last week.{I haven't do sex after the medical abortion.}Could you please console me with your imm. reply

Dear Anna,
The kind of bleeding you are describing after the abortion pill is completely normal.  The bleeding can come and go like this for months.  There is nothing to be concerned about.  Your cycle will eventually go back to normal. Just be careful - you can get pregnant while you are bleeding, so make sure you use birth control or protection.
