Question
I am 25 yrs old.
I had an surgical abortion 3 wks back.
I had no post op bleeding.
When should I expect my next period.
If the abortion was not successful I might be 10 wks pregnant.
What are my options?
I have not had sex in the past 3 wks but my boyfriend did ejaculate near that area could that have caused a pregnancy?
I know it may be hard to believe but I have never had sex and got pregnant the first time the same way. He promiced me he would not let it happen again.
If I take a home pregnancy test now how accurate will it be. Should it be positive or negative?

Answer
Dear Natalie,
Your pregnancy test should be negative by now.  I would suggest that you check it so that you don't worry about it.  Most commonly, you should get your period 3-6 weeks after the abortion.  This is completely normal.  Sometimes it can take up to 3 months.  There is absolutely nothing to be concerned about as long as the abortion was complete and you don't get pregnant again.  Ejaculate near the vagina is most likely safe, but not 100%.
I hope this is helpful,
Doctor Joan
