QUESTION: I had a surgical abortion on the 13th of Feb. and had unprotected sex on the 18th. I was still bleeding. What are my chances of getting pregnant? I have not been to my check up appointment yet either.

ANSWER: Hello Erica,

You should have been advised not to have sex for at least 2 weeks after your abortion. It takes that time and sometimes more for your body to heal and be ready to be normal again. Make sure you go to your followup appointment or go to your regular doctor and make sure that everything is going ok in recovery. I don't think there is much chance that you could be pregnant but it's not 100%. Watch and see if you have any pregnancy symptoms or miss your next period. Sometimes that is hard to figure out about your period because your hormones are not normal right now.

QUESTION: I stopped bleeding and had unprotected sex again on the 22nd. of Feb. so that makes (2days: the 18th. and the 22nd.).and had surgical abortion on 13th. what are chances of being pregnant. also around what time frame should i expect a period???

Hi again Erica,

I can't really tell you what time frame you can expect your next period. When you have an abortion, it varies from woman to woman. Also, having sex is going to make it difficult for you to tell if you are pregnant or not. I would advise you to consult your regular doctor and see what he/she says. No one can tell you what the chances of being pregnant are. Like I said, see if you develop any pregnancy symptoms and get back with me later.
