Question
I had to have an abortion due to medical reasons 1wk ago, i only bled a little on the day of and not much at all afterwards is this normal? and is this bleeding considered the start of my menstrual cycle?

Dear Adriana,
It is completely normal to only have one day of bleeding or spotting after an abortion procedure.  However, don't be suprised if the bleeding stops and start, or the spotting comes back.  This is normal.  It is often difficult to know what will be your first period after the abortion - it will likely not come at its regular time, or be "normal" - it's best to ignore the irregular bleeding patterns - your period will come back to normal in the next months.  The only thing you should be concerned about is getting pregnant again.  Even with irregular bleeding you are still ovulating and can get pregnant.
