Abortion/bleeding, long periods after abortion

Question
I had an abortion almost 8 months ago. I have always had normal 5-7 day periods, But now my periods last for 2 or 2 1/2 weeks? The bleeding is not the same either it is very dis-colored....... Can you please help me figure out a solution!!!

Dear Shamra,
It would be very unusual for an abortion 8 months ago to cause periods that are over 2 weeks, however it is possible.  This could be from hormone changes, or it's possible that there is still some tissue remaining in the uterus that is causing this problem. It would be best for you to get an ultrasound of your uterus, to evaluate whether the lining of the uterus went back to "normal."  If not, it is probably hormonal.  Either way, a doctor should be able to help you with this problem.
