Question
QUESTION: I had a abortion done on 13 of dec, I was 7 weeks pregnant. after the procedure I did not have sex for 3 weeks & even after that we only had protected sex. a week after the procedure i had heavy cramping & huge clots coming out, but not much blood. after a week this died down but after next 2 weeks it started again that is 4 weeks after my procedure i started having cramps every day at 5 pm & there will be a hugh clot discharge but no blood(liquid) with it. Its been 8 week & I still havent had my period. Aslo after 3 weeks of the procedure i got my check up & the home pregnancy test & ultrasound showed negative results. this weeks i.e after 8 weeks of procedure i went to a different obgyn & we did a blood  test & its shows pregnancy hormones still there. also the obgyn did a ultrasound & said there was something wierd & that she will refer me to a ultrasound specialist. I still have  cramps & clots at 5 pm every day & still havent got my periods. please let me know what to do.

ANSWER: Dear Ria,
It sounds like you have a problem called "retained tissue" where some of the lining or a blood clot has not completely passed.  This can cause persistent pregnancy hormones, cramping, bleeding, and a delayed period.  The good news is that retained tissue is common and easily treated, and does not have any long term consequences.  The treatment is a repeat procedure, or you can choose to wait and have it pass naturally.  I would recommend you go back to the clinic where you had the procedure done.  They should complete an evaluation without charge.
I hope this is helpful,

QUESTION: I finally had my periods after 8 weeks but there is lot of blood loss also i still have clots. my periods started on 7th feb & I had fever of around 100F on sunday night....i am still having cramps but along with it i have body ache.....I am feeling dizzy & am really tired.......is this a sign of infection? (having fever) or is it normal.....also since my period have started would I still have retained tissue & do I need to get it removed?

Answer
Dear Ria,
You should definitely follow up with the doctor if you are having cramps, body aches, dizzyness, and fever with passing clots.  They should rule out an infection, and you should not wait.  You should be seen today, no exception.
