Question
Hi,
I had my period on feb 9th till 16 Feb. On the 16 feb i was bleeding a bit during the day, and on the same day in the evening i had unproteced intercourse and he ejaculated inside me. I was so worried that i might get pregnant since i did not have a after morning pill, i took a Yasmin birth control pills for 4 days ( never have taken before) but i was told that sometimes birth control work same as after morning pill. Anywyas i was so worried i couldnt eat or even go to work, and on the 25 Feb i got my period well i dont know if its a period but its heavy and i had large clots coming out then small ones. My cycle is usually 28 to 30 days. My period is always heavy and lasts 7 days. So do you think i was pregnant and i had miscarriage 10 days after having unprotected intercourse? or what is causing my period to come so early? Can i still be pregnant? Please advise i am so worried........oh and i took a home pregnancy test and it came negative ( was to early i guess)
Thanks
Rose

Answer
Dear Rose,

The most important thing is that you are not pregnant. It sounds like you never got pregnant.  A pregnancy test turns positive two weeks after the incident, so you are fine, and you don't need to worry.  Your periods are probably different because you took the birth control pills the way that you did in the middle of the month.  There is no problem, they should go back to normal.

For the future, the way you took the birth control pills is not correct to act as emergency contraception.  For Yasmin, you would have to take 5 pills, 12 hours apart.  Otherwise, there is also Plan B available now in most pharmacies.  It's over the counter, but the pharmacist has to give it to you.

I hope this is helpful,
