Question
How long does hCG show in the system after having an abortion? Is it possible 5 - 6 wks after having an abortion that the pregnancy hormone could still be present and at a high enough level to give a false positive result. The dr who gave the positive confirmation this afternoon is not our regular doctor and only saw us to confirm that the test said we were pregnant. We did not tell her about the recent abortion. It will be another two weeks before we see our regular GP as he is on holidays. Is it possible that the test be wrong? Thank you.

Hi dear Lee,

yes some test are false positive, eg when they were stored wrongly.
5-6 weeks after an ab, the test is negative also the most sensible types.
Did you have unprotected sex ? Fertility is restored from day 10 after the abortion. You can figure out yourselves.
